In Hinduism, Lord Shri Rama stands tall as “Maryada Purushottam“. Shri Ram Chalisa is a forty-verse hymn – a prayer to worship Lord Shree Ram. Bhagwan Shree Ram is the seventh avatar or incarnation of God Vishnu. Lord Rama is considered a Maryada Paurshottam, which means a perfect man in the Hindu religion. Rama’s prefix “Shri” signifies that Ram is constantly associated with “Shri.” Lord Sri Rama embodies the four Vedas.

Every day, reading or listening to Shree Ram Chalisa is thought to cleanse a person of life’s sins. It helps them attain “Moksha“. For centuries, Shree Ram Chalisa has stood out as a cherished hymn. Bhagwan Sri Ram is one of the most significant deities in Hinduism. He is the one who may grant you salvation if worshipped with utmost sincerity and love.

Origin of Shri Ram Chalisa

Bhagwan Shri Ram is the incarnation of Vishnu and the Ramayana’s hero. “Ramayana” was first written by Valmiki in “Sanskrit”. Ram Chalisa was written in the vernacular by Sant Tulsidas between the 16th and 17th centuries. Lord Rama is regarded as the universal spirit Om or God. He manifests himself in human form for the well-being of His creation on Earth. The Ram Chalisa has been translated into various languages and is recited and read widely even beyond the frontiers of India.

First, we should understand the significance of Lord Rama to understand the importance of Ram Chalisa. Now, we all know that Lord Ram is the incarnation of Vishnuji. His other form is Shri Krishna, too. There are 108 names of Shri Krishna, which means those are God Rama’s name, too. It is also named as “Rama Ashtottara Shatanamavali”.

The importance of Ram Chalisa lies in the greatness of the Sri Rama stories. Lord Rama was born in northern India to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya. It is said that he was held at the request of the Gods. After being summoned by fire, Vishnu presents King Dasharatha with a pot of nectar. The nectar pot is served to Queen Kausalya, who gives birth to Lord Sri Rama. The purpose of Bhagwan Rama was to defeat the demon Ravana, the King of “Lanka”.

Rama Bhagwan was known for being chivalrous and doing the right thing. He was the ideal son and husband. Above this, Lord Ram was powerful and heroic. It was seen when Sita’s father challenged him to bend the bow that belonged to Shiva. He can break it. Hindus appreciate Bhagwan Sri Ram’s loyalty, virtuousness, kindness, humility, and heroic stories.

All these make the worshippers of Lord Rama recite the Ram Chalisa and chant the Shri Ram Mantra to bring peace, salvation, and prosperity in life. By chanting the Shree Ram Mantra, with sincere love and devotion, devotees wish for the divine intervention of Shri Ram in their life. The Shri Ram Mantra in English is “Om Shri Ramaya Namah.”

The story of Lord Rama is legendary as it has been passed down through generations over centuries. The teachings and stories of courage, kindness, bravery, loyalty, humility and wisdom instil strength, power, and knowledge in His devotees. Shri Ram ji shows His devotees how walking on the Bhakti Marg can lead them to salvation and ultimate “Moksh”.
