Shree Siddhivinayak Temple, Mumbai

Shri Siddhivinayak Temple Attributes

  • The idol or Ganesh murti is an ancient shrine in the temple carved out of a single black stone that is 2.5 feet in height and approximately 2 feet wide.
  • The one unique attribute is the Ganesha idol trunk that is tilted to the right which is called a ‘siddhi vinayak’ and hence it’s named Siddhivinayak Ganpati Mandir. Well, one would say what is so different, according to the Yoga philosophy in Hinduism the Nadi system defines the health of a person. There are three Nadi’s, Ida is the left side channel that denotes the feminine side of personality represented by the moon attribute and signifies calmness and relaxation. Hence the rules and regulation followed for the left-trunked Ganpati idol is lenient. Whereas the right side is denoted as pingala, the masculine side of the personality is represented by the sun which signifies hot, fiery, and aggressive. So it has strict rules to be followed, if you notice in the Shiddhivinayak temple Dadar even the intensity one feels in the sacred space is different. Since it is a right-trunked idol in the siddhivinayak dadar mandir that is ruled by the sun the radiance of the Idol is on another level.
  • The Ganesh idol of Siddhivinayak Temple of Dadar location has four arms known as Chaturbhuja. The right side upper arm has a lotus and the lower arm has string beads, the Japmaal. The left upper arm has an axe popularly known as Parashu in Hindu Tradition and the lower arm has a bowl full of sweets. These elements each pertain to a message that the lord is all-pervading and hence will always be protecting his devotees, it’s a belief famous among the regular follower of Shri Siddhivinayak Mandir.
  • The idol at siddhivinayak Temple Dadar, even though is carved of single stone has an artistic and religious touch, it has a carving of Riddhi and Siddhi wives of Lord Vinayak on each side of the Ganpati idol. Where Riddhi signifies prosperity and wealth, and Siddhi denotes knowledge and talents.
  • Another interesting attribute of the siddhivinayak temple is that the idol is fixed in Padmasan, the lotus pose, having a third eye also having a serpent threading around his body just like Bappa’s father Bhagwan Shiv. Even so, the serpent is threading around the lord as the Sacred thread known as Yadnoypavit worn by pandits after Janevu Sanskar, a tradition followed by Brahmins.
  • The Ganesh idol of Siddhivinayak Mandir Dadar itself has a unique charisma being carved from a single black stone and covered with orange Sindoor all over, having various elements symbolizing the magnificence and attributes of the lord. Siddhivinayak Mandir hence has great significance as the idol of Ganpati itself is powerful along with its consorts that are complimenting the lord.
